Can you answer these questions (Ask a question):

  • Should a 77 yr old start lipitor? ldl 96, hdl 58, total chol 169
My lipid panel is all within recommended levels. The day of my lipid blood draw (5/5) I had a massive heart attack caused by a blood clot in my large artery. I was in surgery within an hour, and my post operation stress test shows no obvious damage to the heart. I read that statins result in a 3.2% lower death rate for seniors, but the risk of potential side effects more than out way the benefits.
  • Can interaction of amlodipine 5mg and bystolic 5mg cause death
husband died in his sleep four days after taking the combination of Amlodipine 5mg and Bystolic 5mg
  • I take two 10 mg a day and have severe itiching.
Due to a severe spinal stenos in 2005 I had open back surgery w/fusion. Again in 2009 I had another of the same procedure. Both failed. So I have used 10mg of loratab 2 or three times a day for 8 yrs. I have never had an itching problem until my Dr. introduced 75 mg of clopidogrel in 6/2012 since that date I itch at various times of the day. My Dr., Cardiologist, vascular surgeon and dermatologist all agree they have never had a patient that has had itching as a side effect to those two drugs. I think I do.

I take 5mg of loratab in the early A.M. and at bedtime. At about noon I take 10mg and thats when my itching is at it's worst. The mg don't don't have as much effect as the one 10mg. Do you ever have anyone who breaks the dose down further and takes, say 6 or more very small dose's a day.

  • Chest pain with gabpentin
Went from using 100 mg of Gabpentin to 300 mg of Gabpentin within 3 days chest pain began..I was using this medication for shingles. Called doctor and he immediately took me off.
  • Blood thinners before a surgery procedure
Evidently my surgeon did not have me stop Plavix soon enough before surgery. Add to this, the blood thinners he used "during" surgery and three days later a blood vessel lets go inside my nose.
The blood/trip to the E.R/Nasal Packing and then the removal 7 days later were horrific. The nose kept dripping blood for two weeks. Surgeon seemed like he couldn't care less
I know Plavix keeps the heart going but at what price?
  • Naproxin reaction severe
My partner was given Naproxin for back pain, after taking the reccommended dose of 2 per day for about 10 days he had a severe reaction. It started off with what looked like insect bites on his torso and arms, within half an hour, these had turned into huge welps that were blending together, He looked like he had been scalded all over. The itching was unbearable so rang NHS helpline, they said to get antihistimnes in the morning and to stop the Naproxin. My partner started to hallucinate, he said he saw vivid colours, a vortex of bright colours and flowers, then he passed out in the bathroom and it took a while to bring him round. He insisted he was fine and just wanted to sleep. In the morning we went to the GP, got some antihistimines but by now his whole body was in a mess, his hands had swollen to 3 x normal size and he was having cold sweats. By now the weekend was here so when he took another turn for the worse, we had to go to an out of hours gp, he saw the photos I had taken of the welps and immediately prescribed very strong antihistimines to be taken x 4 daily, thankfully after the second day everything normalised, we are in day 3 now and my hope is that when he stops taking the meds, the hives will not return. Very worrying medication in my opinion and one that I will not have in the house again.
  • Heavy sweating during sleep
Pain killers like Tylenol 3, vicodin 20 years, Valium and Soma 12 years. Sweat heavy during sleep.
  • Seizure patient was on depakote for 16 years now on keppra 1500 mg.
I am 28 years old and been off depakote for 5 months. I started keppra to control my seizure disorder, which works great. But for the past year I have developed osteoarthritis in my thoracic, si joints, and lumbar. I get alot of muscle hypersensitivity and pain. Can any of this be due to long term effects of seizure meds?
