I've suffered from depression and generalized anxiety most of my life never understanding what was wrong with me.! 10 years ago an internist doctor prescribed -Effexor-. It helped a little, not much

Two years ago after a -Parathyroid surgery- and ovary surgery, started menopause.

Different doctors gave me medications, didn't know they all were for depression

It's a miracle that I'm still alive -literally-. Currently taking Paxil and Synthroid. Can I start taking Garcinia Cambogia and Royal Jelly without drug interaction? I put on about 40 lb. in the 2 years of "Literally Hell that I went through.

Even with medication, still struggling with anxiety and depression.!

Thank you for all your help!!!.- Eloise

Hi Eloise- I share similar symptoms with you regarding anxiety. Agreed-Menopause is hell. look up on WEB MD your thyroid med -necessary of course for your condition- just to inform yourself fully about this particular drug. Better informed helps you make better choices like -> This From Web MD: "Garcinia is POSSIBLY SAFE for most people when ->used for 12 weeks or less Long-term safety is unknown.->"Garcinia can cause nausea, digestive tract discomfort, and headache."(!) I have found out I am very sensitive to most supplements except B vitamins. IF your depression continues-tell your Doc-adding another may help. Perhaps Thyroid condition also causes depression a double whammy for you. I take Proxac an-SSRI-My Doc just started me on that one after years of seeing me I had to gain her trust I guess-along with long term low dose [50 mg] Elavil-a tricyclic, and low dose of diazapam !only 7.5 mg a day! it is very important to keep diazepam BELOW ten mg per day to avoid addiction[valium]

  • Is it my thyroid or am i mentally ill? diagnosed w/ hashimoto's thyroiditis but untreated - chronic pain unmanaged also (2 answers)
I moved to OR from HI and brought all my records, signed releases, and had many diagnoses, all but the thyroid, was being treated and long-term. I also took Oxycontin & Oxycodone for severe chronic pain from bilateral SI joint fusion (right screw protrudes & leg also becomes numb and weak with activity) & lumbar and cervical degeneration & facet arthropathy. I had volunteered reducing dosage as I'm always trying to reduce Rx intake to alleviate side effects (I am tiny, even for a youth & adult dosages seem to drug me). Next month, it was known that I could not function well because pain was not managed, but needed to resolve it in OR, as moving. OR Drs. refused to return me to higher dosage (taking minimalist Oxycontin 10 mg CR & Oxycodone/Acet 5mg). After being unable to get up to go to bathroom, walk, contacted adult services to see about in home services & possible foster care placement for young son since I was losing independence & failing in general health & cognitive functioning. I was forced to take bottles of OTC Tylenol to function, with Dr's knowledge, & knowing I had past lesions on liver to follow. Several months later had follow up liver ultrasound, & new small lesions found on liver. After emailing dr about from DHS questioning failure to manage my pain vs. conditions that were disabiling, 6 months later, dr told me I was experiencing withdrawals every morning & finally agreed to increase Oxycontin to 15 mg, which has enabled me to tolerate the pain & function. I have been treated as a drug-seeking patient since attempting to transfer my care.
I have multiple autoimmune conditions, most of which I no longer treat with Rx as I have been overmedicated & side effects are too numerous. So I actually am opposite in many ways. I stopped Lyrica, Silenor (sleep), Elmiron, Bentyl, Dexilant. Stress affects me seriously since I had a TBI and experience anxiety stress disorder, which seems to contribute to auto immune responses. But still knew triggers & familiar with self - this thyroid diagnosis & symptoms experienced new & too destabilizing to live.
Diagnosed w/ Hashimoto's thyroiditis after 1/2 thyroid removed Nov 2011; my antibodies are unbelievably high. I declined in thinking, memory, anxiety-unable to think/track, losing most, getting lost driving, sleep very dysfunctional, too emotional, crying easily & often (unusual for me). I feared losing ability to live independently. My maintenance Rx (Silenor, Lyrica) seemed to drug me. I tried to explain to drs. that I needed thyroid replacement hormones that I never had these problems before.
They referred me to a psychiatrist for medicine management consultation, who gave me mental health diagnoses (histrionic personality disorder, somatoform (hypochondria) that discredited me & ruined my medical records for future validity. Is it thyroid symptoms? Was unmanaged pain contributing? Too much Tylenol? What does a dysfunctional thyroid do to a person? How do I get my medical record addressed to reflect accuracy?
  • Is it safe to take pravastin while on remicade?
I have just started on Remicade and this drug scares the heck out of me! However it is being used as a last resort as no other medications were bring my ulcerative colitis under control I am very concerned about drug interactions and can't seem to get any straight answers from my doctor or the pharmacist. My main concern right now is can I safely take Pravastian due to being on Remicade? My cholesterol is very high.
  • What medications cause hair loss
Been experiencing hair loss for several months and the loss has increased the last couple of months. My doctor ran thyroid test and it was normal. The loss has been gradual and it is not breaking off, but coming out at the root.
  • Can horse chestnut seed extract be used with hydrochlorothiazide?
I've taken hydrochlorothiazide for about 2 months, seemed to help with swelling at first, but now not so much. I've suffered with this severe swelling in legs, ankles and feet since my early twenties. I've been told it was lymphedema, circulation problems; but still no concrete diagnosis. I often wonder if there's a problem with my kidneys or liver although I've not been told that by a doctor...
  • Does anyone have primary biliary cirrhosis due to prescription medications and if so has anyone detoxed from all mecications and received a decline in their enzyme levels but some form of dementia? (1 answer)
I was treated for simple depression 10 years ago which through additional and multiple prescription medication use as directed by my family doctor and pyschiatrist turned into to PBC, Hyertension, Hyperthyrodism, Bi-Polar. Once informed of the diagnosis Primary Biliary Cirrohis I choose to detox from all medications in hopes to stop the progression of the PBC. The results were as I thought at the time positive, my enzymnes levels went from off the charts to 50% reductions. The tree in my liver continues to die. I now have a nuerological damage, I suspect frontaltemporal degenration. No Doctor or supporting staff in the region I received treatment will attest to anything other than improved enzymne readings. I cannot have a PET Scan to confirm or disregard my suspicions as I live in a controlled/free medical care province. Yet I travelled to another province and the Doctors asked me when I was scheduled for a liver transplant and they really did not know about the congnitive impairment I was displaying at time of emergency medical attention. I could not walk or talk I believed I was having a stroke. Not so, but a defined diagnosis was not forthcoming. I was advised to go back home and ask the medical care professionals to explain the emergency care's findings. Still I was given the run around and lead to believe it was a psychiatric issue, no organs other than the brain involved. I also need to say no irregular thyroid levels at this time, but higher than normal blood sugar count. Drug free out of whack blood chemistry readings and still no further ahead. I Will admit I caved into the pain and now take long acting and advanced short term pain medications. My question is, am I the only one.

  • Can viibryd cause a itchy rash or stevens-johnson syndrome? (1 answer)
I have had mild anxiety and depression for several years, but in the last 4 months, they became severe. I started getting small rashes (or hives), which on different parts of my body and last about 30 -45 minutes (sometimes less). My family doctor thinks could be a result of anxiety. My family doctor took me off of Klonopin (which was not helping at all) and tried me on Xanax (which did not help me at all). Next, he put me on Valium, and it helps my anxiety some. Because my anxiety & depression were not improving much, my family doctor referred me to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist took me off of Lexapro and onto Viibryd, which I've been taking for 10 days now. Unfortunately, the rash is showing up more frequently now, and it covers a larger part of my body. I started taking Benadryl and using hydrocortisone cream to help with the itching, but it comes back every day, mostly at night. I wondered if it was caused by my laundry detergent, so I changed detergents, but the rash still returns, but, like I said before, it only lasts for about 30 minutes and doesn't cover my whole body. Sometimes it shows up on my legs, other times on my back, other times on my stomach, and other times on my arms. Do you have any insight into this? I've heard of Stevens Johnson Syndrome; however, it presents itself differently than I've read. HELP PLEASE!

  • Anyone having pain in muscles two weeks or more after injection of avonex? does avonex do damage to the muscles into which it is injected?
15+ yrs dx with RRMS has progressed to SPMS. Been on Avonex entire time and my condition has progressed slowly. I am still able to walk, do stairs (though slowly), cook, do housework (unfortunately!:-)) and generally take care of myself and family for the most part. Depression has been a problem but I weaned myself off the prescribed meds as I did not like the way they made me feel....tried several of them. MS has taken more of a bite from my cognitive than physical wellness which neccesitated my retirement from my office job. Severe problem solving, decision making, concentration problems,

confusion and along with much anxiety. Now the fear that avonex may be destroying the muscles I've been injecting for so many years. Even after 15+ yrs of use I still have one or two sick days afterward.

  • Levothyroxine or synthroid makes me dizzy (1 answer)
I stopped taking synthroid and levothyroxine because I couldn't tolerate dizzy spells even when I was driving the car or in class and in the middle of the night holding on the wall to go to the bathroom. I couldn't tolerate nauseous which cause me fainting or dizzy spells. Too frightened to continued vomiting. After I stopped taking synthroid and levothyroxine, I started taking supplements for my thyroid. I will see an endocrinologist. I already spoke to my PCP doctor, he still insisted that my thyroid is causing the side effects. I am the one who is taking it everyday for the past year and that medicine was hurting me and I know what I am talking about. After I stopped taking it, my hypothyroidism returned, BUT no nauseousness, no more dizzy or fainting spells and no more vomiting. How do you explain that? It is those medicine that is hurting, not my thyroid. The only symptom that I know of returns is sensitivity to cold. Also, Allegra, Loratadine and Klonopin never have caused me any problems, just a few side effects. They did not give me the worst like synthroid and levothyroxine. synthroid and levothyroxine are dangerous to me, but I need help with my thyroid.
