    acrodoctor on Apr, 4, 2013:

after a transsfenoidal surgery for acromegaly in 1999,my hormons returned high (after 8 month, and i was put on SANDOSTATIN LAR 30 mg ones a month ,i had side effects ,and did not feel myself good but more or less coped with it until my hair were falling in a terrible pace--i used to have beautiful dark long hair (am a woman) and i almost became bold--this realy nocked me and depressed me ,because -on the contrary to chemoterapy hairloss ,that is temporary (hair growes back once the chemoterapy is finished )here i knew i have to be treated for life !!!
i asked the novartis companie ,who are the companie manifacturing the sando.lar about this side effect and they conviniently avaded me (althgo i am an m.d. !!!!
in fact they try to "minimise" the side effects of this drug, that have many other effects on other hormons and sistems in the body.
i found case reports on alopecia as a side effect for octreotide treatment, sent it to them-but they prefered to ignor it and did not add it to their side effect list
the hair loss for me was the last throgh on the camells back -and i stoped my treatment all together, began to take bioidentical estradiol\progesteron replacement terapy and my hair grew back long and dark as before.
now 10 or more years later ,i feel i have some relapse of acro. mainly in my joints--i am quiet affraid to take this monster drugs again.dont know yet what i will do

so please keep in mind that hairloss is (!!) aside effect in this somatostatin analog drugs and please emphesise it on your side effect list, for others too
