Can you answer these questions (Ask a question):
- Can augmentin cause caridac arrest 2 days after stopping taking it?
Augmentin and Cardiac arrest - My husband (46) always perfectly healthy, took Augmenin 875 for 4 days after a dental treatment. 2 days after completing taking it, while running 6 km on the beach in the early morning, he collapsed with a Cardiac arrest (ventricular fibrillation). Luckily he was saved by a doctor with a defibriallator who was nearby. All the tests they run in the hospital show that his heart is very healthy and that he doesn't have any heart diseases. They are suggesting "Brugada Syndrom" but I'm not convinced. His late mother had a terrible allergy to Augmentin and almost died from it and his late father also had an allergy to Penicillin, so does his sister. When I suggested that the Augmentin might be the cause which led to the Cardiac arrest his doctors said it's not possible. I'll be glad to hear your opinions. Thanks, Michele

- Augmentin triggered polyneuralgia and ruptured achilles tendons
In 2011 I was prescribed 2 ten day runs of Augmentin 875 mgs. for a persistent sinus infection. Within a day of the last dose of the antibiotic I began to have strange deep agonizing pain for no apparent reason. The first pain was when I was blow drying my hair. I turned my head over and down when suddenly I had an excruciating pain in my neck. My upper arms began to ache as well. Within an hour or two it went away. This type of pain continued for several days and I went on a regimen of Vit. C and lots of fish oil. It subsided. After several days I was napping with my arm over my chest. When I awakened I had the same excruciating pain in my hand! It felt like someone had pounded me with a baseball bat. I told my husband to take me to the ER, and I am not one to run to the ER for anything. He became very upset and then I thought, what are they going to do for me in the ER? I slammed my hand on the table, "No! This is NOT happening" That day I literally took an entire bottle of fish oil, 10 caps at a time, with Vit. C. The pain left and never returned. However, about 3 weeks later I developed ruptured achilles tendons in both legs. It made walking almost impossible. The orthopedist stated I needed to have surgery. I put it off for a long time, bought a pair of Croc shoes and after 5 months the ruptures healed by themselves. I have been told that only surgery could fix them. About 2 months ago I read about the side effects to flouroquinolone antibiotics and was flabbergasted to see that all of my symptoms with Augmentin were similar to the side effects to drugs like Levaquin and Cipro! I never associated the ruptured tendons as caused by Augmentin, but now I believe that it was a result of using this antibiotic. The ruptured tendons can occur weeks after the use of antibiotics. I maintained a healthy diet as well as continued using anti inflammatory supplements like fish oil and Vit. C
- Poisened by fenofibrate
it started in Apr. 2013. I would eat and get sick to my stomach. I would have severe shooting pains in my stomach area. My bowels were loose and would stay that way. Or at times I would just be nauseated for no apparent reason. My mouth got dry and I began having dizzy spells. Those last two symptoms mostly went away except for the dizziness which would only happen if I bent over. By July it was hard to look at food at all. This went on for an entire year, every day. The VA, which was taking care of me, diagnosed me with a bad gall bladder. It was finally taken out in Sept. Unfortunately it did me no good.
On March 20, 2014, I took myself off this medication. Five days later the symptoms started to lift.

Recently tapered off of Percocet slowly, but also had the flu at the same time. Used ADvil cold and Sinus, which dried out my sinuses too much. Developed sinus infection that isn't improving. Wondering if the this is a withdrawal symptom, even though I didn't seem to have any of the other w/d symptoms other then fatigue, which could just as well be a result of being ill and as side effect from Augmentin I am taking now.
