I've been taking Chlorthanidone and Potassium for Blood Pressure spikes experience last summer. My blood pressure would be fine one minute, 3 minutes later while resting (no stress) my blood pressure could shoot up as high as 220/120. After hospitalization, the Emory Hypertension Clinic placed me on chlorthalidone and Potassium, the only thing that has worked to stop the spikes, normal BP medication of any kind did not work. The primary side affect is insomnia, I fall asleep okay, but I am awake all hours of the night without being able to return to sleep, very frustrating and I have no answer, the plan at this point is to return to the Emory doctor to change medication but I'm afraid of the blood pressure spikes returning, any suggestions. I'm averaving 2-5 hours a sleep at night with various types of sleeping pills, they do not work.
