  • From this study (1 day ago):

  • My son started on this medication when he was 15 months old for chronic impaction, back when it was still available by prescription only. His pediatric gastroenterologist prescribed the full 17 gram dose daily. He took it until he was 4.5 years old. He frequently had encopresis, or a leakage of liquid stool around the impacted stool. He was also a very chubby little guy when he started on this medication. But he quickly lost a ton of weight and was never able to gain really. When he was 11, he still fit in size 4T underwear (for 4 year olds). He was diagnosed with Failure to Thrive and he underwent abdominal surgery to receive a feeding tube to try to get up to a healthy weight. He was also diagnosed with Autism. He had no developmental delays or any issues at all prior to starting this medication. Now, he has trouble communicating, he receives special education accommodations in school, and he has trouble dealing with life in general (meltdowns, sensory problems, inability to proper assess and navigate social situations, echolalia, etc.).
