Single mother concerned for my son's and my own safety. Idiopathic. Tried MANY different regiments of medications. Breakthrough severe seizures always occur. Have see. Seen many specialist, all test preformed, no solid answers at all. NO history of epilepsy or seizure disorder in family. At a loss. Please help me get my life back.

Have you ever had a fall or injure to the head? (I never had it) but I can relate to you. Because I had a dog that gave birth to these 5 puppies. One of the puppies that I gave away later had continues epilepsy. I later found out that the dog's owner abuse her a lot (hitting in the head.) But none of other 5 or the mom or dad had it (I own the mom & dad). The owner ended up giving the dog away to get killed. I had to go the shelter to take the dog back. One thing I noticed that the dog would get seizure whenever she heard loud noises (like my mom yelling) couple hours prior that. May be you could try to figure out if there was any pattern that could help you to prevent the seizures from happening. Some people think it's silly but one thing helps me going through difficult times is to focus on the positives by listening to the audio "The Secret" & "The Power" from Rhonda Burne. I hope you can get cured soon; miracles do happen. I wish you all the best.

Hi how did you know that you were having the strokes? Did they say that the Topamax was causing them?
krissybyrd on Mar, 10, 2014:
I had a series of 6 strokes on New Years eve and into day and then 2 more in a month. Doctors could not find out why except that I have thick blood they were in my brain stem. But one doctor the last time said that Topamax would kill me and not to take it. Since stopping I am doing much better and have been home for one month now. I hate Topamax.
L. Hudson on May, 28, 2012:
Massive Stroke after taking Topamax for 9 mo. unknown etiology, misdiagnosed for 5+ months- lost entire rt cerebellum and part of brain stem due to no intervention.
High Blood Pressure since 25 unknown etiology, casual smoker on/off ~2 yrs. Otherwise healthy. Blood tests, CTAs of neck and brain vessels all within normal limits. Awaiting echo of heart (neuro thinks it will be WNL as well).
Am on other meds as well.
