  • From this study (4 weeks ago):

  • Recently referred by GP to Pulmonologist for recurring sudden severe cough spasms which started about 2-3 months ago mainly due to 2nd hand smoke from a neighbor in an adjacent apartment. Pulmonology appt. scheduled in 2 weeks. Under allergist until Sept 2013 when I got laid off for similar symptoms (coughing, upper body aches, headaches upon contact from office fragrances). Spirometry tests done four or times (never given results but I think did not cause any alarm) Treated with Advair, Albuteral, Flonase for what allergist then diagnosed as Rhinitis. Treatment did not help so sent to lab for Methochloline Challenge (6 rounds of increasing irritants). By last round, images showed about 1/2 lung areas black. Diagnosed with VCD and perscribed just speech therapy for 4 visits. Didn't help. Now, have not been exposed to irritants other than aforementioned heavy 2nd hand smoke, I have been on Combvient about 1 weed ago. Helps a little but serious cough spasms occur even when away from the 2nd hand smoke. THink I have COPD not just asthma. NEver diagnosed with asthma. I'm 54 yrs old but in good phyiscal shape workout 4-5x week. Not overwieght 5-9 170 lbs. Never smoked anything. No recent colds or flu. I have had increased anxiety and stress triggers especially last 6 months or so.. Based on above, what is the probable condition? I know I shouldn't diagnose myself but think its COPD, not VCD or Rhinitis. Sorry for lonnnnnnnggggggg explanation. THanks.
