I am a 56 year old woman who was diagnosed 2 years ago with osteoporosis. I have fractured my back 8 times with fratures at T9, T10, T11, T12, L1, L2, L5 and S1. I exhausted my 2 year time frame to be on Forteo. I am currently on Boniva and Vitamin D. I do physical therapy 3 times per week along with walking 30 minutes a day. I have lost 4 inches in height and have the hump along with the protruding stomach. My osteoporosis was caused by medication (steriods) for Sarcordosis. I have been on steriods for 8 years and my doctors do not see me getting off of them anytime soon. I am in pain all the time along with shortness of breath. I sometimes use a walker but fight it most of the time, My biggest fear is my shortness of breath. At what point does the spine compress my lung cavity so much as I wont be able to breath. Its very scary. I am disabled and my life has changed 100% since being diagnosed. I am hoping to gain further knowledge of this disease and any treatments that might be coming in the future.
